Flexicurity- The Solution to India's Rigid Employment Protection Legislations
The Indian labor market has been rendered inflexible by a voluminous body of Employment Protection Legislation. In the guise of protecting the interests of the workers, the highly rigid labor laws actually work to the detriment of the employers and the overall economy. The central inquiry seeks to find a solution to the existent inflexible condition of the Indian labor market, by replicating the policy of flexicurity. To aid this inquiry, the article comprehensively analyzes the adverse impact of the highly regulated labor market on the Indian business environment. Thereafter, the author examines the working of the flexicurity model and its successful implementation in Denmark. Finally, the article discusses whether or not the flexicurity model can be replicated in India’s socio-political milieu.
